About this role
Parenting for Lifelong Health (PLH) is looking for a creative, hands-on UI/UX Engineer (Full Stack) who enjoys designing great user experiences just as much as building them.
This is a role for someone who loves bringing ideas to life, from understanding what users need and designing intuitive, engaging interfaces to writing code and seeing those designs come to life in production. You’ll have the opportunity to take ownership, experiment with new ideas and make a real impact on how people interact with our digital products and how that engagement changes their behaviour.
As part of PLH’s product development team, you’ll help shape the future of our digital products, build a consistent design system and create accessible, scalable solutions that are both enjoyable to use and meaningful to the people we serve.
Key responsibilities
UI/UX Design
- Own the end-to-end user experience across mobile and web applications, from initial concepts and prototypes to production-ready interfaces.
- Design intuitive, engaging and consistent experiences for end users and internal teams.
- Develop and maintain a shared design system, including reusable components, design patterns and guidelines.
- Design for diverse audiences, following WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility standards, supporting multiple languages and accounting for varying levels of digital literacy.
- Ensure interfaces work effectively across different devices, screen sizes and connectivity conditions.
Full Stack Engineering
- Translate designs into high-quality, responsive and maintainable production code.
- Develop features end to end, including front-end interfaces, backend APIs, database changes and automated tests.
- Build scalable, reusable front-end components and maintainable application architecture.
- Participate in code reviews, testing and continuous improvement of engineering practices.
- Use modern development tools, including AI-assisted coding, while maintaining high standards of code quality, security and reliability.
- Ensure responsible handling of personal data in line with PLH’s data protection requirements.
User Research and Testing
- Plan and conduct usability testing with end users, internal teams and other stakeholders.
- Translate research findings and user feedback into actionable design improvements and product requirements.
- Collaborate with programme stakeholders to test, validate and improve solutions before and after release.
- Follow PLH’s safeguarding, consent and ethical research requirements.
Required skills and experience
- At least 3 years of professional experience designing and developing user interfaces, with a strong portfolio demonstrating both design capabilities and production code.
- Strong proficiency in TypeScript and React; experience with Dart and Flutter is an advantage.
- Experience developing, testing and releasing mobile applications for Android and/or iOS.
- Full stack development experience, including backend APIs and relational databases.
- Strong understanding of interaction design, visual design, information architecture and prototyping.
- Experience creating and maintaining design systems and reusable component libraries.
- Practical knowledge of accessibility standards, responsive design and usability testing.
- Ability to work independently, make sound technical and design decisions, and take ownership of features from concept to deployment.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a remote, multidisciplinary team.
PLH values
- Courage We have the courage to design for the big picture and complex problems with a commitment to creating sustainable solutions that last.
- Evidence We believe our work transforms the lives of children, families, and communities. Evidence of impact guides every decision, and we are relentless in pursuing the greatest impact with the least investment of time and resources required for parents and providers.
- Playfulness Parenting and child wellbeing thrives on play — and so do we. We experiment, learn from each other, as well as from parents and children, and create playful and engaging products and programmes that inspire joy, curiosity, and connection.
- Respect Everyone brings something essential. We show kindness in our team, honesty with our partners, and deep respect and empathy for parents and children, and those who are on the frontline of providing services for them.
PLH has a strong commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity in how we work, who we work with, and what we do. Candidates from minority and disadvantaged backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.
PLH also has a strong commitment to the Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA). All candidates considered for the role will be subject to background and reference checks in their country of residence.
